[He can multitask, sure, but this requires his attention in a lot of places at once--the placement of his feet, his opponents feet, the way the swords move, anticipating where they're going to end up next and putting all the pieces together--it's a little much for him to keep up with, especially without the muscle memory in his system. One misplaced foot means an uneven distribution of weight, which makes each strike harder to execute.

That's what happens even as Chiron provides him an opening. 76 overbalances, taking one more step forward than he needs to, missing the opening but trying another thrust with his sword anyway.
