[ Genji's dream is not that pleasant either, though toward the end he begins to realize that it's a dream, that the image of an ideal Hanamura can't be real. His rational mind begins to take over, and maybe that's what wakes him up.
But what he wakes to really isn't any better than the dream. Once he realizes what's going on (that is, that he's suspended in some sort of red fluid), panic takes over. Between a series of bad memories and the dawning knowledge that he needs to be able to breathe, he ends up thrashing around in the pod, doing whatever he can to try and break himself free. The glass doesn't budge against the force he exerts on it, however, and Genji feels his lungs begin to burn, and the artificial parts of him start to whir --
Finally he reaches out toward the light in front of him, and then he's ejected by the pod, spat out to land unceremoniously on the floor with a clang. Genji sucks in ragged breaths, wheezing as he remains completely unaware of what's around him. All he can register is that he's alive, somehow, even though he remembers quite clearly knowing that it was the end.
